Anila Rubiku

Nata nel 1970 a Durazzo, Albania. Vive e lavora a Milano.
Nel 1994 si diploma all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Tirana, Albania, e si trasferisce in Italia per studiare all’Accademia di Brera, dove si diploma nel 2000. Nel 2005 vince il 2° Premio "Targetti Light Art Award" e fa parte della collezione d'arte Targetti. Dal 2006 fa parte della collezione Deutsche Bank di Londra. Nel settembre 2007 è stata  invitata come Artist – in Residence dal Jerusalem Center for the Visual Arts e ha vinto ArtsLink Residency NY, (USA) Ottobre – Novembre 2008. Ricchissimo il suo percorso di mostre in giro per il mondo.

Guardando la serie di 100 uccelli su carta che compongono l’installazione “Hope is the thing with feathers (2022), che cita il verso di una poesia di Emily Dikcinson, mi è tornato in mente il nome di un uccello che sa imitare tutti i suoni, naturali e ambientali. Si chiama Lyre Birds.

Ho pensato che questo uccello fosse la perfetta metafora della condizione femminile: addestrata da secoli a saper emettere perfettamente i suoni degli altri, a comporre melodie che non sono le proprie, facendo da cassa di risonanza per un mondo costruito da uomini per uomini.  Una riflessione su come il calco maschile abbia modellato lo spazio urbano e la stessa idea del femminile limitandone la sua espressività.

Born in Durres (Albania), 1970. Lives and works in Milan.
In 1994 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana and moved to Italy to study at the Academy of Brera, Milan and graduated in 2000. In 2005 she won the 2nd Prize in the category "Light Sculptures" of the Targetti Light Art Award 2005 and now her work is part of the Targetti Art Collection and London Deutsche Bank collection. In 2007 she was invited by the Jerusalem Center for the Visual Arts as Artist in Residence, and in 2008 won the ArtsLink Residency October- November NY, (USA). Her curriculum is very reach of exhibitions around in the world.

Looking at the series of 100 birds on paper that make up the installation “Hope is the thing with feathers “(2022), which quotes a line from a poem by Emily Dickinson, I am reminded of the name of a bird that can imitate all sounds, natural and human-made.

These are called Lyre Birds.

I thought that this bird was the perfect metaphor of the female condition: trained for centuries to be able to perfectly emit the sounds of others, to compose melodies that are not their own, acting as a sounding board for a world built by men for men. A reflection on how the male cast has modelled the urban space and the very idea of the female, by limiting its expressiveness.
