Gianfranco Gentile

Dalla metà degli anni '90 Gianfranco Gentile, attraverso l’utilizzo di cartoni da imballaggio riciclati, dipinti a pastello morbido e con l’invenzione di una tecnica basata su un’accurata asportazione della superficie non dipinta, propone un’operazione sulla memoria, un’archeologia industriale che riflette esteticamente sull’invenzione umana e il suo trascorrere, sui miti arrugginiti del pensiero positivista e sulla seconda bellezza dell’oggetto, non più funzionale, creata dal fluire del tempo con le sue ossidazioni e corrosioni della materia.

Sensibile alle tematiche ambientaliste già a partire dai suoi studi di architettura dei primi anni ’70, Gentile utilizza le possibilità creative del cartone finalizzando il suo lavoro alla sensibilizzazione sui problemi legati alla salvaguardia del nostro pianeta. Artista legato al “Movimento Arte Etica”, ha realizzato grandi murali di cartone per sensibilizzare sul riciclo della plastica e sull’inquinamento delle acque e realizzato opere contro la devastazione dell’habitat naturale.

A causa della cecità e disumanità delle politiche anti-immigrazione, una parte consistente del suo recente lavoro è dedicato a questi temi, opere che integrano la pura pittura con l’installazione e la performance.
Numerose le esposizioni personali e collettive in Italia, in importanti città europee, in Cina e in Brasile.

Since the mid-1990s Gianfranco Gentile, through the use of recycled packing cartons, painted in soft pastels and with the invention of a technique based on an accurate removal of the unpainted surface, has proposed an operation on memory, a industrial archeology that aesthetically reflects on human invention and its passing, on the rusty myths of positivist thought and on the second beauty of the object, no longer functional, created by the flow of time with its oxidation and corrosion of matter.

Sensitive to environmental issues starting from his architectural studies in the early 70s, Gentile uses the creative possibilities of cardboard by finalizing his work to raise awareness of problems related to the protection of our planet. Artist linked to the "Movimento Arte Etica", he created large cardboard murals to raise awareness of plastic recycling and water pollution and created works against the devastation of the natural habitat.

Due to the blindness and inhumanity of anti-immigration policies, a substantial part of his recent work is dedicated to these themes, works that integrate pure painting with installation and performance.
Numerous personal and collective exhibitions in Italy, in important European cities, in China and in Brazil.
