Michele Giangrande

Michele Giangrande nasce a Bari nel 1979.

Attualmente è docente di Decorazione all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bari. Artista di grande versatilità, da anni compie una ricerca che trae ispirazione nell’arcaico, nel primitivo, nella rilettura del passato, attraverso un approccio sistemico di pittura, scultura, artigianato, performance, cinema, installazione e architettura. Partendo dalle proprie origini, l’artista decide di compiere un percorso a ritroso nelle tradizioni popolari e nella Storia dell’Umanità, per giungere alle prime espressioni artistiche e coglierne così la scintilla basilare da imprigionare nelle proprie opere. La ricerca di Giangrande si propone come un tentativo d’individuare nell’estremo passato una comunicazione nel contemporaneo proiettata al futuro, attraverso un viaggio ludico-analitico che parte dalle proprie memorie percorrendo la genesi stessa del fare. Ha partecipato a numerose mostre personali, collettive e di gruppo. Le sue opere sono presenti in musei, collezioni pubbliche e private in Italia e all’estero. La sua ricerca è stata oggetto di studio, di tesi di laurea e di varie conferenze. Molte le recensioni al suo lavoro apparse su quotidiani e riviste di settore come FlashArt, Insideart, Segno, Exibart, Artribune, ARTEeCRITICA, Espoarte, Arte Mondadori, Interni. Più di sessanta le pubblicazioni in cataloghi personali o di gruppo. Tanti i critici e curatori, giornalisti e operatori del settore incontrati sul suo cammino.

Michele Giangrande was born in Bari in 1979.

Currently he is teacher of Decoration at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bari. A very versatile artist, for years he has been running a search which draws inspiration from what’s archaic, primitive, from rereading the past, through a systemic approach to painting, sculpture, handicraft, performance, cinema, installation and architecture. Starting with his origins, the artist decides to go all the way back to folk traditions and Human History itself, ending with the first artistic expressions and, by doing so, gathering the fundamental sparkle of it and trapping it in his works. Giangrande’s search is intended to be an attempt to detect in the remote past a present but forward-looking communication, through a playful and analytic journey which starts from his own memories going through the very genesis of the making. He has participated in a number of solo exhibitions, collective exhibitions and group exhibitions. His works of art can be found in museums, in private and public collections in Italy and abroad. His search has been subject of studies, of graduation thesis and of several conferences. Many reviews for his work have appeared onto sector newspapers and magazines such as FlashArt, Insideart, Segno, Exibart, Artribune, ARTEeCRITICA, Espoarte, Arte Mondadori, Interni. More than sixty are his publications in solo or group catalogs. In his path he met a number of art critics and curators, journalists and operators.
