Tonki

tonki.com è un e-commerce italiano, creato nel 2012 quando Alessandra e Ruggero hanno inventato Tonki, un prodotto personalizzabile con un design unico. Dal sito e dalle app (iOS e Android) sono stati venduti ad oggi 1 milione di Tonki in tutta Europa. Tecnicamente sono fogli di cartone fustellati sul cui viene stampata ogni tipo di immagine. Sono spediti stesi avvolti nelle proprie istruzioni e in pochi passaggi il cliente li trasforma in oggetti originali da appendere o appoggiare. Tonki è un’azienda mono prodotto con produzione propria, questo permette tempi di produzione e consegna super veloci nonostante sia un prodotto personalizzato. Il processo di acquisto è molto semplice, è possibile caricare immagini dai propri social networks o dalla galleria del cellulare.

E' il 2012, volo super economico, zaino in spalla e via per fare una sorpresa alla mia ragazza a Londra. Mi piace fare l'autostop! Recupero un pezzo di cartone e al centro scrivo "147 Kilburn High Rd". Finalmente si ferma un camionista che mi porta a destinazione. Durante il viaggio piego il cartone e lo infilo nello zaino. Decido che lo regalerò ad Ale in ricordo di quest'avventura. Arrivo a casa, le do la sorpresa e…lei ci incolla una nostra foto! Da li' a poco abbiamo dato un nome a quest'invenzione: Tonki!  E la nostra vita non e' più stata la stessa.

tonki.com is an Italian e-commerce website, created in 2012 when Ruggero and Alessandra have invented Tonki, a customizable product with a unique design. From the website and mobile apps (iOS and Android), 1 milion Tonki have been sold to date all over Europe. Technically, Tonki is a cut cardboard sheet, on which we print all types of pictures. Tonki is sent flat to the customer with instructions attached and in a few steps, the customer turns it into an original object to hang or put down. Being a single-product brand, production also is optimized at the maximum and allows very fast production and delivery times for a customizable product (in Italy, 1 to 3 working days). The acquisition experience is very simple, it’s possible to upload pictures from social networks or from the photo gallery of the phone.
The idea for Tonki came about one afternoon in London. It was 2012 and I decided to make a surprise visit to my girlfriend. Cheap flight + backpack and off I went. I like hitch-hiking so I found a piece of cardboard and wrote "147 Kilburn High Rd" on it. At long last a lorry driver picked me up. During the trip I folded up the cardboard and put it in my backpack. I decided I would give it to Alessandra as a souvenir of the adventure. When I got there and gave it to her she stuck a photo of us on it. Not long after, we came up with a name for our invention. The rest, as they say, is history.
